Benitoite is said to be one of America's three rarest gemstones. It is a stone full of charm as a jewel, possessing a strong sparkle like a diamond and a beautiful blue like a sapphire. It is said to have been discovered in the 1900s near the San Benito River in California, and is characterized by strong light dispersion. This color is rare for benitoite, also called peach benitoite. Generally, benitoite is famous for its blue color, but this one has been heat-treated from a colorless stone. Because fewer stones break during heating or turn peach-colored, the supply is low, and it is generally more valuable than blue.
