Matrix type opal, formed when opal penetrates into porous host rock. Andamooka opals are particularly attractive for their unique contrast, with play-of-color emerging from a dark body color.

In these pieces, the host rock has undergone sugar treatment (carbonization) to darken its body color, further highlighting the play-of-color within. This process involves impregnating the host rock with sugar and then carbonizing it to bring out a dark color. Unlike dyeing, this treatment creates a natural, deep color from within. Enjoy the unique appearance of Andamooka opal, created by the contrast between the dark host rock and the play-of-color.
