Scheelite is generally known for its pale yellowish-white to brownish hues, but colorless, white, gray, orange, and green varieties have also been discovered. It is known as one of the important ores of the heavy metal tungsten, and it is said that it was once produced in large quantities in Japan. It has high dispersion and, depending on the cut, can exhibit strong fire similar to a diamond, but gem-quality specimens are difficult to obtain in large sizes, so few are circulated as gemstones.
