Kornerupine's appeal lies in its "pleochroism," which allows it to appear different colors depending on the angle you look at it from. It is one of the rarest stones. Some of them magically change color from blue to purple, green, or clear. This example shows a rare cat's eye effect. A penlight was used for the photo. The back of the stone is generally unpolished.
