Paraiba tourmaline is prized for its captivating hues, ranging from vibrant blue to green. It is characterized by its unique coloration, which is produced by its copper content. First discovered in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, in the 1980s, its production has since been confirmed in other regions, including Africa. Recently, copper-bearing tourmalines from Ethiopia have also been drawing significant attention. In Japan, any blue to green tourmaline containing copper, regardless of origin, is currently referred to as "Paraiba tourmaline."

This is an Ethiopian Paraiba tourmaline that we have just sourced in Hong Kong. For this selection, we focused not only on transparency but also on stones that showcase the vibrant color and neon quality characteristic of Paraiba tourmaline. It contains 2.29% CuO (copper oxide) and 0.62% MnO (manganese oxide). This loose stone is one you can enjoy by appreciating not only its visual beauty but also the components that create its color.
