Paraiba tourmaline is captivating for its exquisite hue, which differs from both the deep blue of the sea and the azure of the sky. In Japan, it is defined as "a copper-bearing tourmaline ranging from blue to green (regardless of origin)." It is a gemstone that boasts enduring popularity. This is a rough Paraiba tourmaline specimen from the São José da Batalha mine (old mine) in Paraíba, Brazil. Known as the birthplace of Paraiba tourmaline, São José da Batalha is where this historical crystal specimen with matrix was unearthed. From the white to translucent matrix, a vibrant blue-green columnar crystal—characteristic of Paraiba tourmaline—extends outward. Vertical striations unique to tourmaline can also be observed on the crystal surface, allowing for a close examination of its natural, raw form.
