Paraiba tourmaline is captivating for its exquisite color, distinct from both the blue of the sea and the blue of the sky. In Japan, it is defined as "copper-bearing blue to green tourmaline (regardless of origin)." It is a gemstone that continues to enjoy enduring popularity. This is a piece of rough Paraiba tourmaline from the São José da Batalha mine (old mine) in Paraíba State, Brazil. São José da Batalha is known as the birthplace of Paraiba tourmaline. This is a crystal specimen with matrix, unearthed from that historic mine. A vivid, Paraiba-like blue-green columnar crystal extends from the white to translucent matrix. The characteristic vertical striations of tourmaline can be seen on the crystal surface, allowing you to closely observe the form of the crystal as it appears in its raw state.
