Paraiba tourmaline is captivating for its exquisite hue, which is distinct from both the blue of the sea and the blue of the sky. In Japan, it is defined as "copper-bearing blue to green tourmaline (regardless of origin)." It is a gemstone that continues to enjoy enduring popularity. This is a raw Paraiba tourmaline specimen from the São José da Batalha mine (old mine) in Paraíba, Brazil. Known as the birthplace of Paraiba tourmaline, this crystal specimen with matrix was unearthed from that historic mine. A vivid blue-green columnar crystal typical of Paraiba tourmaline extends from the white to translucent matrix. Vertical striations unique to tourmaline can also be observed on the surface of the crystal, allowing for a thorough appreciation of the raw crystal's form.
