Paraiba tourmaline is captivating for its exquisite hue, which differs from both the turquoise of the sea and the blue of the sky. In Japan, its definition is established as "a copper-bearing tourmaline ranging from blue to green (regardless of origin)." It is a gemstone that boasts enduring popularity. This is a piece of rough Paraiba tourmaline from the São José da Batalha mine (old mine) in Paraíba, Brazil. São José da Batalha is known as the birthplace of Paraiba tourmaline. This is a crystal specimen with matrix, unearthed from that historic mine. A vivid blue-green columnar crystal, characteristic of Paraiba tourmaline, extends from the white-to-translucent matrix. You can also observe the vertical striations unique to tourmaline on the crystal surface, allowing you to closely examine the appearance of the crystal in its raw state.
