Coral is the birthstone for March. It is a gemstone made from coral insects that live under the sea. Colors vary depending on the type, including red, pink, orange, and white. Red coral is also known to be found in the waters around Japan. The coral from Kochi Prefecture is especially famous, and the dark-colored coral is called blood red coral and is prized.
