Sale price¥1,540

"Jewelry Origami" published by Nihon Bungeisha Co., Ltd.
This book, which I was involved in from the planning stage, was reprinted less than 10 days after its release on February 17, 2024. Thanks to you, it has been well received from all over.

We introduce a wide range of information, from how to fold the cuts that are often applied to gemstones to how to make them wearable or decorative.
Some folding methods may be difficult for beginners, but we encourage you to give it a try.

■ Features of "Jewelry Origami"

Jewelry Origami Carats

"Jewelry Origami" allows you to enjoy jewels from a slightly different perspective.

By not only introducing the cuts applied to gemstones, but also covering a wide range of items such as wearable items such as rings and medals, items that resemble gemstone rough, and items that can be displayed in a room, we hope to make the charm of gems appealing not only to gem lovers, but also to those who are not normally familiar with gems.

Gemstone Origami: Calcite rough stone

Following the instructions on how to fold the piece is a mini gemstone encyclopedia with pictures of the gemstones that have been cut.
You will also have fun learning by finding out what kind of jewel the thing you have just folded actually exists as.

Jewelry Origami: Mini Jewelry Encyclopedia

We have tried to omit difficult knowledge and vocabulary wherever possible and have written the book in an easy-to-understand manner, so we think that children will also find it interesting to read.

In addition, "scratch resistance (Mohs hardness)" and "break resistance (toughness)" are displayed as icons rather than numbers or words, making them easy to understand intuitively.

Jewelry Origami: Mini Jewelry Encyclopedia

The photos used in this mini gemstone encyclopedia are ones that KARATZ has taken on a daily basis. Please enjoy the photos that KARATZ is proud of, which capture the beauty and characteristics of each gemstone to the fullest.

Just as different gemstones have different characteristics, the final look will vary depending on the paper and color used to fold them.
By deliberately using different paper depending on the cut, we suggest ways to enjoy it beyond just the shape.

There are many papers that are too advanced for beginners, so it is recommended that you start with regular origami and then gradually try out different papers.

Videos are provided to support parts that are difficult to understand with just words. You can access them by clicking the QR code under the title.

Once you've made them, you can put them in a box to create your own unique gemstone specimen, or show them to your friends.

Please use your imagination and try creating a variety of original jewelry full of ideas.

■ About the creation of "Jewelry Origami"

The "Jewelry Origami" works were produced and photographed by the members of Orist, an origami club at the University of Tokyo.

During the creation of these works, they also put a lot of effort into selecting the paper they used, such as which paper would look more like real gemstones and which would give the illusion of a jewel-like sparkle. There is also a list showing which paper was used for each piece.

Some papers are difficult to fold, but please give it a try.

■About Orist, the University of Tokyo Origami Club

This is an interdisciplinary origami circle that was founded in 2008 by students from the University of Tokyo. Currently, many students from outside the University participate, and the main activities are origami creation, research, and exhibitions.

The toilet paper origami proposal he made shortly after the company was founded attracted a lot of attention, and he has published many books.

■ Thoughts on creating "Jewelry Origami"

Since the founding of KARATZ, we have been carrying out various activities with the desire to "make more people enjoy jewelry" and "make people smile with the sparkle of jewelry."

As part of their activities, they have proactively provided opportunities and materials where children can learn in a fun way, such as holding "Jewelry Lectures" and "Rough Stone Polishing Classes" for elementary school students, and producing "Jewelry Playing Cards" through crowdfunding.

And now, by being involved in the production of "Jewelry Origami," released by Nihon Bungeisha, I sincerely hope to be able to convey the charm of jewels to even more people through origami.

This "Jewelry Origami" book not only teaches you how to fold the cuts that are often applied to jewels, but also how to fold them so that they can be worn or displayed. Some of the folding methods are difficult, but I think it is enjoyable for people of all ages, from children to adults. I hope that it will reach many people.
