Trapiche emeralds, which display six radial arms, are rare gemstones, making up only a tiny fraction of all emeralds produced. This pattern is believed to form when impurities are incorporated during crystal growth and extend vertically alongside the growing crystal.

This emerald is from the collection of Masahiro Shimizu, the "Emerald Hunter" familiar from the TV show "Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai," and was carefully selected from the Muzo Mine in Colombia. It is a rare faceted cut for a trapiche emerald.
