Fire opal is an opal characterized by vivid body colors reminiscent of flames, such as yellow, orange, and red. This particular piece is a beautiful fire opal with a vibrant orange body color. It has been crafted into a plump oval cabochon by Sanjeewa, a lapidary artist from Sri Lanka. While its glossy orange color is striking against a standard white background, when illuminated against a black background, vivid plays of color in green, red, and blue emerge. It is an expressive stone where you can enjoy both the body color and the play of color. The photos showing the play of color were taken using a penlight against a black background.
