Garnet is famous as the birthstone for January. In fact, it is a stone that comes in a variety of colors, including red, yellow, orange, and green. This is a "hessonite garnet," a stone with a soft texture that resembles maple syrup dissolved in water. It is characterized by inclusions called treacle.
This is a custom-cut hessonite garnet cut by Sanjay, a Sri Lankan cutter. It has been carefully cut so that the color does not fade even when viewed from the front.
