The beautiful green of emeralds is said to vary in color depending on their origin. This particular emerald is from Colombia, known for producing emeralds with a particularly deep green hue. Emeralds are generally stones with many inclusions, so it is common to oil treat them to make the inclusions less noticeable. Please enjoy the elegant green color. This is a pyrite-in-emerald.
This is a pyrite-in-emerald from the Chivor Mine in Colombia. The Chivor Mine is known for producing beautiful, bluish emeralds. This particular loose stone features pyrite inclusions within the emerald. The addition of metallic-lustered pyrite to the emerald offers a different look than a plain emerald, showcasing the unique character of the mineral.
Such pyrite-in-emeralds are known not only for their interesting appearance but also for the difficulty in polishing them. This is because emerald and pyrite have different hardnesses, with emerald being harder. As a result, during normal polishing, the pyrite parts tend to become recessed. Therefore, these stones are carefully cut over time in Colombia. The coexistence of different minerals within a single stone requires high skill and careful attention during finishing.
