Mexican Fire Opal 0.459ct Loose

Opals have been popular since ancient Roman times. Fire opals have a red to orange body color that evokes the image of fire. The photo was taken using a penlight.

This Mexican fire opal was cut by Sanjay, a Sri Lankan cutter. It has been carefully cut so that the color does not fade even when viewed from the front.
This is a contralus opal that displays fantastic play of colors when light is shone on it against a black background.
