Calcite is famous for its strong doubling effect (the phenomenon where letters appear doubled when the stone is placed over them). It is native to a wide variety of countries, including Iceland, Mexico, the United States, and Spain, and there are records of it being mined in Japan as well. It is said that when exposed to sunlight, the ray of light splits into two, which makes you want to take it outside and see it for yourself. Comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Japan-Germany Gemological Institute.
