While standard moonstone and rainbow moonstone are appreciated for the Schiller effect on their surface, the appeal of those from Malawi lies in the rainbow light that appears to be embedded deep within the stone. This iridescence is created by the interference of light due to slight distortions or layered structures within the crystal, creating an impressive look with bands of brilliance that spread in a consistent direction. The contrast between its transparency and rainbow colors is beautiful, and stones with particularly vibrant coloration are rare, with limited production.
