Sapphire is a world-famous gemstone that needs no introduction. While the mineral is the same corundum as ruby, all corundum that is not red is called sapphire. This is a purple sapphire. With a hardness of 9, second only to diamond, sapphire is a highly durable and stable gemstone that is easy to care for.

This stone was purchased as rough in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, and cut by Sri Lankan lapidary Mr. Sanje; it features high clarity and the brilliance expected of a sapphire. Although purchased as unheated, it has not undergone formal non-heated testing. Please note that while a gemological report may state "Commonly heated," this is not a confirmation that heat treatment has been applied, but rather a standard phrase used when no testing has been performed to guarantee it is unheated.
