Sapphire is a world-renowned gemstone. Although its mineral, corundum, is the same as ruby, all non-red varieties are called sapphire. This is a purple sapphire. With a hardness of 9, second only to diamond, sapphire is a highly durable and stable gemstone that is easy to care for.
This particular sapphire was purchased as rough stone in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, and cut by Sri Lankan lapidary Mr. Sanje. It features high clarity and a brilliant reddish-purple color. Although it was purchased as unheated, no official unheated testing has been conducted. Please note that an appraisal report may state "normally, heating is performed," but this does not confirm that heat treatment has been applied; it is a standard phrase often used when no specific testing for unheated status has been performed.
