While common moonstones and rainbow moonstones are admired for the adularescence on their surface, the appeal of Malawian moonstones lies in the way the iridescent light seems to penetrate the interior. This iridescence is caused by light interference due to slight distortions and layered structures within the crystal, creating a striking appearance with band-like brilliance that spreads in a consistent direction. The contrast between its translucency and iridescence is beautiful, and those with particularly vivid coloration are rare and limited in production.
