While typical moonstones and rainbow moonstones are admired for their surface schiller, the appeal of Malawian moonstone lies in the way the rainbow light seems to enter the interior of the stone. This rainbow color is created by the interference of light due to slight distortions and layered structures within the crystal, and the band-like brilliance extending in a certain direction creates an impressive appearance. The contrast between the transparency and the rainbow colors is beautiful, and those with particularly good color development are rare and limited in production.
