A well-known and famous gemstone, sapphire. The mineral is corundum, just like ruby, but all corundum that is not red is called sapphire. This is a pink sapphire, and it also exhibits a star effect. A penlight was used for photography. Please note that the back of the stone is generally unpolished.

This is a pink star sapphire from Ratnapura, purchased locally in Sri Lanka. It has been cut by Sri Lankan polisher Mr. Sanje to enhance the star effect and play of light. Ratnapura is known as the "City of Gems" and has long been world-renowned as a source of high-quality sapphires.
