This is a pyrite-in-emerald from the Chivor Mine in Colombia. The Chivor Mine is known for producing beautiful, bluish emeralds. This particular loose stone features pyrite within the emerald. The addition of metallic-lustre pyrite to the emerald offers a different aesthetic from a plain emerald, showcasing the unique character of the mineral.

This is because emerald and pyrite have different hardnesses, with emerald being harder, so in conventional polishing, the pyrite portion tends to recede.
