This is a pyrite in emerald from the Chivor Mine in Colombia. The Chivor Mine is known for producing beautiful emeralds with a bluish tint. This particular loose stone features pyrite within the emerald. With the addition of metallic luster pyrite to the emerald, it offers a different look than a simple emerald. It's a single stone that showcases its unique mineralogical character.
Such pyrite in emeralds are known not only for their interesting appearance but also for the difficulty in polishing them. This is because emerald and pyrite have different hardnesses, with emerald being harder, so in normal polishing, the pyrite parts tend to dent easily. Therefore, these stones are carefully cut over a long period of time locally in Colombia. High skill and carefulness are required in the finishing process precisely because different minerals coexist within a single stone.
