While typical moonstone and rainbow moonstone are enjoyed for their surface sheen, the allure of the Malawi variety lies in the appearance of rainbow light captured within the stone. This iridescence is created by light interference caused by subtle distortions or layered structures inside the crystal, creating an impressive effect with band-like brilliance that spreads in a specific direction. The contrast between its transparency and the rainbow colors is beautiful, and stones with particularly vibrant coloration are rare, with limited production.
