A type of feldspar mined in Malawi, in southeastern Africa. It is characterized by fine, rainbow-colored streaks of light appearing within its transparent crystal. While standard moonstone and rainbow moonstone are appreciated for their surface shimmer (adularescence), the appeal of the Malawi variety lies in the appearance of rainbow light captured deep within the stone. This iridescence is caused by light interference resulting from slight distortions or layered structures inside the crystal, creating an impressive banded glow that spreads in a specific direction. The contrast between its transparency and the rainbow colors is beautiful, and stones with particularly vibrant coloration are rare, with limited supply.
