While standard moonstone and rainbow moonstone are appreciated for the adularescence on their surface, the appeal of the Malawi variety lies in how the rainbow light appears to be contained within the interior. This iridescence is created by the interference of light caused by slight distortions or layered structures within the crystal, creating an impressive, banded glow that spreads in a specific direction. The contrast between its transparency and the rainbow colors is beautiful, and particularly vivid specimens are rare due to limited production.
