Cassiterite is a rare stone known as the primary ore of tin. It has a high specific gravity, so it appears smaller than other gemstones of the same carat weight, but high-quality, transparent pieces are very rare. It has a higher dispersion than diamond, and well-cut loose stones can exhibit beautiful fire (rainbow-colored sparkle) within a faint brown hue.
