This is synthetic rutile, which appeared on the market in the late 1940s as a diamond substitute. Due to its low hardness of 6 and stronger dispersion than diamond (it sparkles more than diamond), it was only used for a short period as a substitute.
This is a dazzling synthetic rutile cut by Sri Lankan craftsman Sanje. It's a round cut with a special facet count, different from a normal round cut.
