This is synthetic rutile, which appeared on the market in the late 1940s as a diamond substitute. Due to its low hardness of 6 and stronger dispersion than diamond (meaning it shines brighter than diamond), it was only used as a substitute for a short period.

This 4.3mm, 0.447ct synthetic rutile was cut by Sri Lankan polisher, Mr. Sanje. It has more facets than a regular round cut, allowing you to enjoy a powerful and brilliant sparkle every time it catches the light.
