A moonstone with a spotlight shining on its center. This bright optical effect, similar to the moon's glow, is a characteristic feature of moonstones. A penlight was used for the photography.
This is a moonstone from Uva, Sri Lanka, which has only recently been mined. It was purchased as rough, and then polished into a brilliant, oval special cut by Sri Lankan polisher Sanje.
