Phosphophyllite became a popular rare stone thanks to a famous gemstone manga. Large gem-quality pieces are rare, and because it's fragile and breaks easily, cut gemstones are extremely valuable. However, it's easy to see why some people are captivated by the beautiful, ephemeral color of this bluish-green. It also exists in colorless and deep green varieties, the latter being particularly rare.
