Axinite is characterized by the axe-like crystal shape of its raw stone. Its Japanese name is simply "axe stone." Most are brown, but there are also color variations such as pale pink, pale red, purple, and yellow. Magnesioaxinite is considered to be particularly rare among axinite. It is a type of ferroaxinite in which the iron has been replaced with magnesium, and it generally exhibits a soft purple hue. It often also contains manganese, and specimens with high manganese content have been found to exhibit a vivid yellow color.
It comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Japan-German Gemological Institute.
