[12557548] Brazilian Kasharai Amethyst 0.389ct Loose Stone
This amethyst was produced in the Caxalai mine in Rondônia, Brazil, and was depleted over a short four-year period between 2000 and 2004. Its vibrant deep purple color, Caxalai amethyst, is also known as color-shift amethyst because it turns reddish-purple in warm light. It was originally discovered when mining began in search of the rare metal tantalum ore. When it was first brought to Japan, its beautiful appearance and similar infrared absorption properties led some to suspect it was synthetic amethyst.
