The famous stone sapphire is a well-known gemstone. This one in particular shows the star effect. Sapphire is the second hardest gemstone after diamond with a hardness of 9, and is tough, stable, and easy to care for. A penlight was used for the photo. The back of the stone is basically unpolished. This is a round-cut 5mm star sapphire from Sri Lanka.
