Montana sapphires began when Dr. J.F. Kunz, a vice president at Tiffany & Co., identified blue rough stones found in Yorgo Valley, Montana, as sapphires. There are several deposits, and while the characteristics vary from location to location, they are generally characterized by high transparency and a large number of fancy colors. This is a 2.8mm round cut Montana sapphire purchased directly from the owner of the Montana Sapphire (Rock Creek Mine). It's a yellow Montana.
