The Japanese name for aragonite is aragonite. It is so called because calcium carbonate is formed in the shape of small hailstones falling from the sky. Mohs hardness is slightly lower at 3.5 to 4. It is hard enough that you need to be careful if you wear it all the time as a ring. It has a beautiful glass-like luster.
This chopstick rest (step cut) is hand-polished by Yukio Shimizu, representative of Shimizu Kiseki, famous for the Sakura in-cut and Dandelion cuts . A postcard with a foil-stamped signature is included as a special gift for chopstick rests. A special patch is included.
