The history of simulants manufactured as diamond substitutes dates back to the late 1940s, when synthetic rutile was produced , followed by strontium titanate in the 1950s, and finally YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) , a synthetic gemstone that was in circulation around 1970. Also known as Yag, this synthetic gemstone is a cousin of gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) . This is a Portuguese cut cut by Sri Lankan cutter Sanjay. It measures 6.5mm.
