There are several stones in which you can see a star, such as star quartz, star sapphire, and star ruby, but this one is star garnet. A star with four stripes will appear in the middle. I also use a penlight to take pictures. The back side of the stone is basically unpolished. Scratches/chips are evaluated excluding the back side. Generally, star garnets have 4 rays, but this type looks like 6 rays depending on the angle.
