Iolite sunstone refers to the type of iolite that sparkles when light is shone on it. This sparkle is due to an optical effect called "aventurescence," and is thought to occur when it contains iron minerals, mainly lepidocrocite (lepidocrocite).
It is also called "aventurine iolite."

These are loose iolite sunstones purchased directly from India and polished by Sri Lankan polisher Sanjay. They come in a variety of cuts, including lozenge cuts. They average 0.30 carats.
