The famous stone sapphire is a well-known gemstone. It is made from the same mineral corundum as ruby, but all corundum other than red is called sapphire. This is the most orthodox blue sapphire. Sapphire has a hardness of 9, making it the second hardest gemstone after diamond, and is also highly tough and stable, making it easy to care for.
This is a 5ct blue sapphire purchased in Chanthaburi, Thailand, with high transparency and enjoyable color zoning. This blue sapphire is also featured on the "Colored Stone Market in Thailand, Land of Gemstones" page in the Books and Gemstones Encyclopedia (p.37). It comes with a certificate of identification from the Japan-Germany Gemstone Institute.
