~What is Neko Kiriko~
"Koshu Kiseki Kiriko" is said to have been created by applying Kiriko techniques such as Edo Kiriko and Satsuma Kiriko to jewelry. It was created by Yoichi Fukasawa, a traditional craftsman who lives in the jewel town of Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture.
Mr. Fukasawa is said to have a strong sense of inquiry and curiosity, and his head is always full of new ideas. To date, he has created many innovative and one-of-a-kind pieces using Kofu City's traditional crafts of jewelry carving and Kiriko techniques. This time, Mr. Fukasawa has announced a new work, which is a cut stone in the shape of a cat's face.
The cat cut made by NOBU, who runs a jewelry polishing factory in Thailand, is based on the cat cut. Mr. NOBU's cat cut has been extremely popular among jewelry lovers since it went on sale at the Tokyo Mineral Show (held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo) about four years ago, and can be said to be a pioneer of cat cuts.
When Mr. Fukasawa wanted to create an animal series using Koshu precious stone Kiriko, the first thing he thought of as a motif was cats. So, he approached NOBU, a long-time acquaintance who makes cat cuts, and this collaborative work was realized. Mr. Fukasawa owns a cat himself and is known to be a cat lover. As a result of repeated trial and error in order to properly express the characteristics of cats, we ended up with a very nice piece of work.
