amethyst

Amethyst is the birthstone for February. The name refers to purple quartz, and its Japanese name is "purple quartz." It is said that the name comes from the Greek word ``amethystos'', which means not to get drunk, and it also appears in Roman mythology. It is often a fun gemstone to collect with a variety of cuts, as it is often given a special cut.
