Kashmir sapphires boast the highest quality among blue sapphires. Their value is exceptional, depending on their size and quality. They were first discovered around 1881 at an altitude of 4,000m in the Kashmir region, located on the border between India and Pakistan (northwest of the Himalayas), but production has gradually decreased, and it is now said that almost none are being mined. Kashmir sapphires are characterized by their gentle blue color, known as cornflower blue, and a silky luster throughout or in parts.
