Sapphire is a well-known stone. It is made from the same mineral corundum as ruby, but all corundum other than red is called sapphire. This is the most orthodox blue sapphire. Sapphire has a hardness of 9, making it the second hardest gemstone after diamond, and is tough, stable, and easy to care for.
