February birthstone

February's birthstone is amethyst and chrysoberyl cat's eye .

Amethyst refers to purple quartz. There is also a gemstone called ametrine, which is a combination of amethyst and yellow citrine. They are often made with special cuts such as those in the shape of plants or flowers, so they are fun to collect due to their different cuts, and can also be enjoyed as everyday jewelry.

Chrysoberyl cat's eye is one of the varieties of chrysoberyl. When a cabochon cut (dome-shaped cut) is applied and light is shined from above, a streak of light appears in the middle, creating a cat's eye effect (chatoyancy). There are many other gemstones with a cat's eye effect, but this is the most typical and is sometimes simply referred to as "cat's eye."
