rock crystal

Rock crystal refers to colorless quartz. It is said that the name comes from the Greek word ``krustallos'' (ice) because of the appearance of ice turned to stone. It is said that it was once produced in Japan, and is one of the gemstones that are familiar to Japanese people. Because they can be found in relatively large crystals, many have special cuts, making them fun to collect in different cuts.
