Montana sapphires began when Dr. J.F. Kunz, a vice president of Tiffany & Co., proved that blue rough stones found in Yogo Valley, Montana, were sapphires. There are several deposits, but this one is from Yogo, which can be said to be the birthplace of Montana sapphires. Yogo mainly produces blue to violet sapphires. The mine is now closed, so it is a rare stone with no new production. This is a rare round cut blue sapphire from Yogo, approximately 2mm in size, purchased directly from the mine owner. It is a gemstone quality sapphire with high transparency.
