Osamu Tezuka
& Princess Knight
This is the first Japanese story-based girls' manga.
Ribbon no Kishi began serialization in the January 1953 issue of Shojo Club.
Until then, girls' magazines had mainly been filled with reading material, but Tezuka Osamu brought manga that not only contained humor but also had turbulent storylines.
Girls at the time were completely captivated by the thrilling developments in each episode, and the series had a huge influence on subsequent girls' manga artists, becoming a turning point.
As she herself has stated, Ribbon no Kishi is "the culmination of my Takarazuka experience," and it is a work born out of nostalgia for the Takarazuka Revue.
Because of this, she was so attached to the story that she wrote "Princess Knight" four times (the fourth time was only the original draft). After she finished the last "Princess Knight", she moved away from shoujo manga.
